Good leaders are born and made. Regardless of how easily good leadership comes to you, you can improve your skills, and should seek that improvement out. The Church is in dire need of quality, high impact leaders who will constantly point people back to Christ and model well for them the traits of the Savior.

Who will you need to be to lead well in the position you’re in? Different positions may have different requirements, but strong character is a necessity in every position in the Church. One’s character is often overlooked; taking a backseat to knowledge and skills. This is also an area that gets the public spotlight when low-character incidents happen in the Church. Christ-followers need to be the model for the world.
What will you need to know to lead well? Unlike character, one’s knowledge is much easier to improve upon. Does your present or desired position require more education? You may not know what you don’t know, so seek guidance from others in this area.
What will you need to be able to do? If your church has hired you to run the audio/video components, then you better have that skillset. Likewise, pastors today need to be able to lead teams, develop budgets, and create strategic plans in addition to the obvious requirements of preaching and teaching God’s Word.
What should you feel to lead your ministry? Emotions are seldom discussed in the leadership of churches, but we serve an emotional God, and we are created in His image, so it’s right for us to show emotion too. More importantly, high impact leaders should understand their own emotions, deal with them maturely, and be perceptive to the emotions of others.
What abilities will you need to serve in your position? Being physically fit for service is another aspect of competent leadership that we often overlook. A fit body helps to have a clear mind in decision-making. How we treat our bodies is also an example to others and an illustration of our respect and appreciation for what God has given us to do His work.
