About Matt
Matt has been in full-time ministry since 1990, serving in multiple staff capacities and most recently as the Lead Pastor of a dynamic church in Northern California. He is passionate about church health and coaching leaders.
Matt earned a B.A. at LIFE Pacific College, an M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Leadership Skills for the 21st Century). He has been married for 32 years and his wife serves as a Regional Pastor for the Foursquare Church.
Matt has published three books (Ascend, Friendship Leadership, and Advent Encounter).

I had the privilege of serving with Matt when he was the Executive Pastor at Eastside Foursquare Church in Bothell, WA. Matt is a wise, thoughtful and seasoned leader. Prioritizing leader care and development, Matt is a solid strategist, ministry organizer and theologian. He’s passionate about seeing individuals excel in living out God’s purpose for them, and church communities be successful in engaging their communities with Gospel-centric effectiveness. Matt is also kind and compassionate, believing deeply in healthy rhythms, Sabbath rest, self-care, balanced and respectful team culture, and clear boundaries.
Dr. Matt Messner is an experienced and dedicated pastor, leader, and mentor. He doesn't seek to simply pastor the congregation he has been called to - he pastors the entire community, viewing them all as members of his flock. He does this better than anyone I know and serves as an example of how one should approach church leadership in our present age. People easily follow his leadership and seek him out his coaching and guidance. He has a gift for identifying, mentoring, and releasing young leaders as well as helping churches reach their full, healthy, potential.
